Active Ingredient

Flunixin Meglumine 50 mg/g

Actions

The active constituent Flunixin is a potent non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic action. Flunixin is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration (80% bioavailability), with peak plasma levels being reached in approximately 30 - 40 minutes.

Onset of therapeutic effect usually occurs within 2 hours, with peak response within 15 hours and duration of effect up to 30 hours. Flunixin prevents the formation of prostaglandins (PGs) from the precursor arachidonic acid by blocking the action of the enzyme cyclo-oxygenase (prostaglandin synthetase).
